Reductions of national monuments

In addition to Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, the administration is pondering more changes to national monuments:

President Trump’s proclamations reduced the size of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah, splitting the two national monuments into five smaller “units.”

Cascade-Siskiyou surrounds a number of privately owned lands, and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke also wants the reduction to open up more areas for timber harvesting. At Gold Butte, the issue is water rights for the city of Mesquite, Nev.

Boundary changes to the Pacific Remote Islands and the Rose Atoll, could ultimately lead to more commercial fishing.
