A network of Brooklyn specialists, many of whom have made millions from Medicare, are also sharing a lot of the same patients, according to a USA TODAY analysis of referral data. A referral is counted as each instance when a patient saw a practitioner within 30 days of visiting another. In many cases, records show that patients saw these specialists dozens of times between Jan. 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013.
